Just heard from the St Albans Review direct - a total of 1607 votes were cast, of which 83% were against Tesco. Apparently the website only shows 472 web votes, of which 93% were 'no'.
Thanks to all who voted - an obvious message to Tesco that its store is not wanted!

Pretty overwhelming! I wonder why the phone vote is so much lower than the rest.

My guess as to why the phone vote is lower is either because Tesco tried to skew the result (a phone vote being easier to manipulate) or because there is a section of the older community (without internet access) who believe a store closer to their homes would be more convieient for them. Unfortunatley this is a rather shortsighted (no joke intended) view. The air quality in the area will deterioate and these are the vunerable people who will be directly impacted as they will have to live with all the additional pollution from queing traffic. I also think some people have swallowed the tesco story of a smaller store. BUT an 18% reduction from a very large store still equals a large store (the same size as Sainsbury's). the sort of store not aimed to cater for the old at all!! Stop Tesco should think about their marketing campaign to this section of the communiuty to bring them on side. You also need to engage with the less well off who think tesco is cheaper than sainsbury so want a tesco in st albans and don't care where it is. If you live on the cottonmill estate a tesco would be much closer than morrisons is.
